EU-Sri Lanka Innovation Partnership - First Networking EventDESCRIPTION
The EU through the EU delegation to Sri Lanka launched a first project in early 2020 with the aim to foster innovation cooperation between Sri Lanka and Europe1. Fostering partnerships with Sri Lanka’s growing innovation and start-up ecosystem is seen as an important tool to strengthening mutually beneficial EU-Sri Lankan collaboration. The first EU-Sri Lankan innovation week took place in March 2020 where EU and Sri Lankan stakeholders had the chance to initiate collaboration.
Following the Innovation week, EU experts further engaged with the Sri Lankan enablers and startups in direct talks and through implementation of focus group discussions. These were aimed at understanding expectations, resources and commitment of enablers and supported startups when engaging in international partnerships and have been instrumental in the design of the EU-SLIP project as a means to provide concrete opportunities of collaboration.
Thus, the EU-Sri Lanka Innovation Partnership initiative is a consolidation of the different EU supports2 that provides a great opportunity for Europe and Sri Lanka to foster research and innovation networks, and to collaborate in implementing incubation, acceleration and scaling up programs that can support start-ups from both sides to co-create and scale to the other region. Simultaneously, the Sri Lankan innovation ecosystem can further build up their capacity by benefiting from good practice examples and innovations from Europe.
Therefore, in 2020 and 2021, three key activities will be implemented as part of this initiative:
1. Creation of a Network of EU-Sri Lankan Incubators & Accelerators
2. Set up of an EU-South Asia Start up Help Desk and Hands on Support Facilitate Corporate and Investor
3. Open Innovation and Tech Scouting
The objective of this event is to familiarise the 5 Sri Lankan and the 5 European incubators/accelerators with each other and to help them kickstart collaboration. Building connection and mutual trust is critical for enabling long-lasting and fruitful partnerships. Therefore, the first event will provide space for each incubator to introduce themselves, clearly outlining their motivation for participating in the EU-SLIP project and stimulate discussion of joint activities during the networking sessions. -

5th Europe-India Innovation Partnership Netwroking Event (Virtual) on 2 DecemberDESCRIPTION
The main objective of this fifth and final event is to present the achievements of the Europe-India Innovation Partnership (EIIP) since the launch of the pilot project in October 2018 and to showcase to a wider audience of innovation stakeholders from both regions what we have learned from each others’ ecosystems, what the opprtunities are and the challenges.
The achievements are at the three levels of the project: (1) creation of the partnerships leading to co-creative activities between incubators, (2) the involvement of the private sector on several thematic and corporate challenges, and (3) creation of tools to facilitate the EU-India innovation cooperation, notably by setting up European Innovation Zones in leading Indian incubators.
Taking into account that this pilot project ends in January 2021, the event will also provide the opportunity to discuss the legacy of the activities of the project.
The event will be held virtually.
The networking event brings together the following participants:
• A selection of incubators and accelerators (network members) that have shown great engagement in developing partnerships and implementing collaborative acitivites
• The Service Facility/EIIP team
• Members of the advisory board
• Public officials from the European Commission and the Government of India
